3-star rural retreat on the Malt Whisky Trail
Accommodation & Amenities
Cardhu Country House offers 6 en-suite guest rooms, each named after a Speyside distillery such as Macallan, Glenlivet, and Knockando. The house was built in 1868 as the manse of Knockando Parish Church and sits within its own walled garden. Guests can use a guest lounge with an open fire, a dining room, and shared lounge/TV area with board games and puzzles.
Dining
The hotel serves a very good breakfast that includes fresh, local ingredients and cooked-to-order options such as Scottish smoked salmon, haggis, and black pudding. Special diet menus are available upon request, and packed lunches can be prepared for day trips. Dinner is available with locally sourced produce, including options like a fish platter, stuffed pastry, and sticky toffee pudding.
Location & Grounds
Cardhu Country House sits in the Spey Valley within the heart of the Malt Whisky Trail, where more than half of Scotland's malt whisky distilleries are located. The property is a mile from the River Spey, known for salmon fishing, and a short walk from the Speyside Way long-distance walking and cycling route. The garden has an outdoor fireplace, outdoor furniture, and views of local hills and rolling countryside.
Activities & Services
The hotel has a tennis court on site with tennis equipment provided for guests. The owner, Colin, has a background in the whisky business and offers guidance on local distilleries and hidden gems in the area. Private check-in/check-out, daily housekeeping, and invoice provided are standard services, and the house is located a 5-minute walk from Cardhu distillery.
Safety & Policies
The property is a designated non-smoking building with non-smoking throughout all rooms and common areas. Security includes CCTV outside the property, smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, and key access to rooms. Heating is available throughout, and there is free parking and free WiFi on site.
